Datong is food paradise. Located between inner and outer Great Wall, Datong has been inhabited by northern nomadic nationalities and Han Nationality since ancient times thus creating multi cultural with integration of different nationalities. This multi cultural also make Datong cuisine incorporating various cuisine of diversity. Datong is used to be the frontline between Han Chinese and northern nomadic nationalities, thus local culinary art is good at roast, braise and stew. The taste of dish is strong, greasy and salty. You will find food from north and south China, also Datong locality food, such as haggis soup, potato cold noodle, fried yellow millet cake and knife-cut noodle. The types of restaurant in Datong are various, such as Chinese food, western food, hot pot, locality, barbecue etc. where in service of Cantonese, Shichuan, Hunan, Shandong, Anhui, and northwest China food.

大同素有美食城之誉,地理位置介于内外长城之间,自古以来就是北方少数民族和汉民族交错杂居的地方,形成了独特的多民族融合的文化,在饮食上也造就了大同的餐饮业兼收并蓄,不断丰富的特色。由于地处游牧民族与汉族的交汇地,烹调技法擅长烤、烧、炖,且口味偏重,菜品油厚、咸香。在大同,不仅有南北风味,还有大同特色的美食,其中尤以羊杂、凉粉、油糕、刀削面最为有名。餐饮市场种类有中餐、西餐、火锅店、名优特色店、烧烤店等,菜系包括粤菜、川菜、湘菜、鲁菜、徽菜、东北菜等应有尽有。
